Day 20. A Bit Of Aussie Rules

I nursed a bit of sun burn from yesterday's kayaking, but appreciated it'd be more of a boast back home rather than anything too inconvenient for me. I signed up at the gym, and when I say 'I' I literally mean it. The girl wasn't the brightest.

After that there was a big football game on, Manchester City vs Manchester United- the decider for the probable premier league winners. After last times jovial and enjoyable atmosphere I'd agreed to watch it in the British pub, it was midday and I didn't fancy a beer but knew it'd still be fun. As I walked in, I saw City fans mingle with United fans, it was appreciated as I assumed we were all holidaying or working away from home. But then I looked closer and most United fans had Rooney on their back, in fact all did. Then I heard the accents; most were American supporters- I assume their great grandfathers resided and then left Manchester? As I injured lines such as 'they need to bring this' and 'offside, I think its offside'? It never was. But I wasn't judging and enjoyed a slight naivety, it made me feel like a wise old footballing owl. Which I wasn't. I chatted to one Yank about handballs as he said we call for it too much. As I pointed out hands need to be kept by your side and not above your head he realised we were talking about 'Soccer' and not 'football'.
A shandy and subway later. We went to the cinema. 'Safe' the new Jason Statham film. Everything you’d expect from him, well choreographed fight scenes, action and one liners. As we tried to sneak up stairs for another film we got busted and the guy asked to see my ticket.
Two for $20 OR One for $7.99?!
We went to American Eagle and here is a prime example of sales here.

Then into all saints as Tris looked at his boots again. I was chatting to the sales guy and he asked if we were on vacation. I couldn't be bothered and said yeah for a month. 'A month, wow. Just enough time to spend all you money' he didn't know how close to correct he was. 'Yeah but clothes are cheaper in America. Although All Saints is about the same price as back home'. I think it's an English company. 'So where is the one in Australia' he asked. I paused waiting for a smile from him of 'I'm joking' we'd been talking for about five minutes and he'd thought I was Australian the whole time? I was tired and couldn't be bothered. 'Just off Sydney Street' I said. He nodded in agreement.

Lesson learnt. Pretending to be someone you're not isn't always as bad as we've been taught.
